Lori White, a volunteer with ARPO (The Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership), never expected a routine trip to the shelter to change her life. While there to look at kittens in need, Lori ended up bringing home a young cat who immediately stole her heart and brought an abundance of energy to her home. “I went to look at kittens for other fosters, but when I saw Lavender, I knew I had to help her,” Lori shared.
Lavender, a little Siamese mix kitten, had been marked for immediate adoption due to a lack of space at the shelter. “Single kittens can be a challenge for shelters, as they take up an entire cage. But when I reached my hand in her cage, she began purring right away,” Lori recalled.
The Office Assistant
Lori hadn’t planned to take in any more foster kittens, but Lavender’s situation was urgent. “At just seven weeks old and weighing over two pounds, she needed a place to stay,” Lori said. So, she made space for Lavender in her office, and Lavender quickly became the self-appointed office assistant.
“Lavender has the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen on a kitten. She spent her quarantine time in my office, playing around and purring nonstop. She hopped all over my desk, inspecting everything, as if she had endless energy,” Lori said, laughing at her new helper. “Though I didn’t get much work done, her antics brought so much joy to my day.”
Spreading Joy Everywhere
As Lavender settled into her new home, her playful nature became even more apparent. “She started zooming around, tackling every toy in her path. She even climbed the cat posts like an acrobat,” Lori said. Lavender was a ball of energy, and she quickly turned the house into her playground.
One of Lavender’s favorite moments came when Lori and her family were working on a puzzle. Lavender, of course, couldn’t resist diving into the pile of pieces, rearranging them as if she were playing her own game. “She definitely had her own way of helping,” Lori joked.

Meeting New Friends
Despite her energetic and mischievous side, Lavender also had a sweet and snuggly demeanor. She wasn’t afraid of large dogs, either. “When she met one of the resident dogs, she gently tapped his nose and even tried to wrestle with him playfully,” Lori shared. Lavender’s interactions with her new canine friend only added to her charm.
Lavender’s playful spirit and affectionate nature made her an irresistible candidate for adoption. When a family came to visit her, it was love at first sight, especially for their son. “He had a room all set up for her, a sunroom filled with cat trees and window perches,” Lori said. Lavender’s dream of finding a forever family came true after a month in foster care.
Happy Ending for Lavender
Lavender, now named Kellyn Lavender, was adopted by her new family, which included two feline siblings to help her adjust. “She’s still as sweet as ever, and she always brings laughter to her new home,” Lori said with a smile. Lavender’s journey from a shelter kitten to a beloved member of a family was complete, and her future is as bright as her playful spirit.
