Cat Wanders onto Patio After Years of Living on the Streets, Not Knowing His Life is About to Change

Last summer, a large tomcat with one missing eye was spotted wandering around the neighborhood. However, whenever neighbors tried to help, he would disappear without a trace. “We feared he may not have survived the winter,” shared Chatons Orphelins Montreal. “But when winter ended, he surprised everyone by showing up on a neighbor’s patio, where a humane trap had been set up (to help local stray cats).” That was the day Magnus’ luck changed. Driven by hunger, the cat walked straight into the trap and ate the food inside as the door closed behind him. “This cat with big cheeks was named Magnus,” the rescue team shared.

Magnus’ Surgery and Journey

At eight years old, Magnus underwent surgery to address the missing eye and started his new journey in the comfort of a foster home. After spending most of his life on the streets, he tested positive for FIV. (FIV+ cats can live long, healthy lives with proper care.) At first, Magnus was timid and kept his distance from humans, but with patience and love, he began to open up. His foster home created a quiet, cozy space where he could relax. “We started with positive reinforcement using a spatula to pet him,” the rescue team explained. Slowly, he began to trust and let his foster family get closer.

Magnus’ New Life and Regained Trust

As time passed, Magnus began to explore his new home and would approach his foster mom for some affectionate scritches. His tough exterior, built from years of street survival, was now peeling away to reveal a gentle, loving nature. “He’s very curious and loves the company of other cats. From the moment he arrived, we knew he was eager to make friends,” the foster family shared. “He has no hateful side and wants to be everyone’s friend.” Magnus has a hearty appetite, which helped him build trust with his foster family. Now, he is always the first to show up at mealtime and loves to be scratched, especially around his big cheeks and back.
