About three months ago, a pregnant cat with a crinkled ear embarked on a journey across multiple state lines to reach her foster home. Heidi Shoemaker, the founder of Foster Kitten Mama, learned that the cat was in urgent need of help and immediately sprang into action. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of many volunteers, the cat arrived safely in Heidi’s care after a few days of travel.
The tabby cat, named Keeva, was quite thin and needed good meals to build her strength. “This poor girl is in rough shape, and she’s infested with fleas,” Heidi shared. Heidi immediately treated Keeva for fleas and stomach issues, thoroughly cleaned her ears, and ensured she received proper care and nourishing food. Keeva began to relax, and soon, she went into labor.
Within a few days of settling into her cozy new room, Keeva gave birth to three ginger kittens – two boys, Kane and Kenny, and one girl, Kinsley. “She has been able to sleep, eat, and nurse her babies—not a care in the world, as it should be,” Heidi said.

Heidi noticed that Kinsley, the smallest of the bunch, was losing weight, so she stepped in to provide supplemental feedings. “This is why weighing is so important,” Heidi added. After receiving extra care, Kinsley began to gain weight, and Heidi only needed to step in occasionally.
Though Keeva had a rough life before finding her foster home, she quickly adjusted to a safe and loving environment. “Keeva is a confident mama who takes care of her babies well but also likes to take breaks out of the nest,” Heidi shared. Keeva, who had lived a difficult life, was finally able to relax and focus on caring for her family.
When Keeva’s milk supply began to dwindle, Heidi started bottle-feeding all three kittens. “When it rains, it pours,” Heidi said, recalling the sleepless nights she spent caring for the kittens. Despite the exhaustion, Heidi’s heart was full as she watched the kittens thrive and Keeva embrace indoor living.
As the kittens grew, they graduated to a spacious playpen. Keeva, now more playful herself, rediscovered her youthful spirit. Kinsley, the tiniest of the bunch, had soulful eyes that could soften anyone’s heart. Now that she was eating on her own, she was growing quickly. Kane and Kenny, the two energetic boys, were always up to mischief and playful adventures.
Now, Keeva can enjoy her second chance, raising her last litter in comfort and safety. With her babies more independent, Keeva is finally able to focus on herself, bouncing around with newfound energy and indulging in the things that make her happy. She’s found peace in her new life, and her family can grow together in comfort.
