Earlier this month, a beautiful calico cat named Garden found herself at an animal shelter, heavily pregnant. The following day, she gave birth to six adorable kittens and was in urgent need of a foster home. Best Friends Animal Society, located in Los Angeles, stepped in to help, giving the family a chance to thrive.
Garden Finds a Safe Haven
Upon arrival at her foster home, Garden was sweet and trusting from day one. She allowed her foster mom, Jan, to pet and brush her with ease. Jan shared, “Garden was sweet and trusting on day one with me. She let me pet and brush her,” making it clear that Garden felt safe and cared for.
- Safe environment made all the difference for Garden.
- Trust in her foster mom allowed smooth handling of her kittens.
- Garden gave birth to six healthy kittens: Glisten, Glimmer, Glow, Geranium, Golden Poppy, and Grove.
- The kittens were well-fed and kept clean, thanks to Garden’s dedication.
The Kittens’ Early Days
Despite the challenges of caring for six kittens, Garden didn’t have to do it alone. Her foster mom was always there to assist, particularly with helping the kittens go potty. “I can tell she likes me to help them go potty. Usually, she takes a break after cleaning up after one or two. I don’t mind helping her—six babies is a lot,” Jan mentioned.
- Garden’s love for her kittens is evident in how she keeps them nourished and clean.
- She showed her first treat from Jan, and after some hesitation, she eagerly gobbled it up.
- The kittens began to open their eyes around 8–10 days old, with Golden Poppy being the first.
- Garden is always near her kittens, making sure to respond when they cry.
A Bright Future Ahead
As the kittens continue to grow, they have become active little roly-polies, full of energy and curiosity. “Glimmer may be the smallest, but she has a big voice and a determined spirit,” Jan shared. At three weeks old, they are now starting to explore and play beyond their cozy nest. With full bellies, they sleep soundly, waking up to renewed energy.
- Garden has shown immense patience, letting her kittens climb on her back as she tries to enjoy her moments alone.
- Jan has praised Garden for being a wonderful mother who has made fostering a very easy experience.
- Garden and her kittens will soon be ready for adoption into loving homes.
- Their journey has been one of warmth, care, and compassion, thanks to a dedicated foster mom and volunteers.
Why Foster a Mom and Her Kittens?
Fostering a mom cat with her kittens is one of the most rewarding experiences. Garden’s journey proves how important a calm and loving environment is for a mother cat and her babies. Jan highly encourages others to volunteer to foster similar families, stating that “Garden and her sprouts have been one of the easiest fostering experiences I have had in over five years of fostering.”
With the help of compassionate volunteers and dedicated foster parents, Garden and her kittens are on their way to a brighter future.
