A cat that had been left outside attempted to return inside. He was determined to win over the family once they welcomed him.
A request for assistance regarding a cat who had been abandoned on the streets was received by Little Wanderers NYC, an all-volunteer rescue, approximately two months ago.
A worried neighbor claimed to have seen him try to climb a brick wall in an attempt to enter and to have heard him cry every night. He made it obvious that he didn’t belong outside by enthusiastically accepting affection from strangers.
“Friendly cats on the street don’t have the skills to survive,” said Little Wanderers NYC.
In an effort to save this abandoned cat, volunteers jumped into action. The team issued an urgent call for a foster family who could provide him with a warm, secure place to stay while he looked for a forever home while rescue operations were in progress.
After seeing the post, one volunteer reacted right away. “I chose to foster because I knew I could improve his life.”
Thanks to the unceasing efforts of numerous volunteers, the cat, named Emmanuel, was saved in less than ten hours. According to the rescue, “Emmanuel is one of the thousands of cats that have been helped over the years. He is super friendly and was so grateful to be rescued.”
Emmanuel immediately went to his people after realizing he was no longer outside, rubbing against them as if to express gratitude. He had been begging to be allowed back inside for months, and now his wish had been granted.
After exploring his new environment, he curled up next to his human and purred, feeling completely at home.
The foster family came to understand that they were in this together as they spent more time taking care of him and taking him to veterinary appointments.
Emmanuel followed them around the office, keeping an eye on their work and providing a “helping paw” when they needed it. He turned into the ideal friend, always close by and prepared to jump in when someone needed a hug.
“His melodic meows melted my heart, his calm demeanor brought peace, and he got along beautifully with my other cats,” the foster family told LittleWanderersNYC. They realized then that they couldn’t let him go. Emmanuel had already returned home.
In the security and comfort of his own home, he took up his favorite spot by the window to observe birds and small animals.
Emmanuel at last found stability and unending love after all he had gone through. “I wanted to give him that, not just temporarily, but for the rest of his life.”
He no longer sobs at night, tries to break into someone’s apartment, or has to go another day without eating. He has comfortable beds, full bowls, and people who genuinely love him.
What started out as a foster placement became a forever home. “I may not be able to save every cat in the world, but I can change one cat’s world, and I’m so glad I changed Emmanuel’s.” Emmanuel now lives happily with his family, far from the harsh, frigid streets he once knew. Lives are saved by fostering, but adopting? That is even more superior.
