They opened their home to foster a tiny shelter kitten—but she had plans of her own when she found her favorite person.
At just three weeks old, a dilute calico kitten arrived at a county shelter, alone and in desperate need of a bottle feeder. She had been found in a park before being brought to safety.
Erin, a foster volunteer with Sparkle Cat Rescue, stepped in right away. The moment she saw the kitten, she knew exactly what to call her.
“That is Marshmallow,” Erin said. “It was like she told me her name.”
Marshmallow quickly adapted to bottle feeding and grew stronger every day. As she gained confidence, her curiosity blossomed, and she eagerly explored her surroundings.
She was sweet, playful, and full of personality—bringing joy to everyone around her.
Even after she no longer needed the bottle, Marshmallow still loved being pampered. In return, she showed affection in her own unique way—offering plenty of “cat tongue facials” to her humans.
Whether perched on someone’s shoulder or curled up in their arms, she was always close by, purring contentedly.
Marshmallow followed her humans everywhere, often helping out in the kitchen—inspecting groceries, watching over meal prep, and making sure everything was just right.
Despite her small size, she was fearless and confident, getting along with all the other cats in the home. Even those who usually didn’t like kittens couldn’t resist her charm.
As time went on, Marshmallow formed a very special bond with Erin’s son, Liam.
Every morning, she would sit outside his bedroom door, waiting patiently. As soon as the door opened, she would greet him with a soft meow and gently nuzzle his face awake. They would spend quiet moments cuddling before starting the day.
Though she loved everyone, it was clear that Liam was her favorite person. She followed him everywhere and always wanted to be by his side.
When the family learned that Marshmallow had a potential adopter, it was especially hard for Liam. He was heartbroken at the thought of losing her.
Seeing their bond, Erin spoke with the adopter, who kindly understood the situation.
In the end, Marshmallow didn’t have to go anywhere—she had already found her forever home.
“When we told our son he could keep Marshmallow, his smile said everything. We’re so happy she’s staying with us forever.”
