They Found Blind Cat Wandering the Streets, Determined to Save Him, Now He’s Living Like a King

Blind Cat Wandering

A few months ago, people who care for local stray cats noticed a new face in their colony—a round-cheeked, blind tomcat struggling to survive on the streets.

While they were trying to find help for him, he narrowly escaped being hit by passing cars. A kind-hearted woman quickly rushed to his rescue, picked him up, and carried him to safety. The cat didn’t resist or panic and calmly allowed himself to be placed into a carrier.

When she noticed his right eye was severely bulging, she immediately took him to the vet.

With support from the community, the cat—now named Gavroche—received medical care. It wasn’t surprising when he tested FIV+, as his body showed clear signs of a harsh life on the streets.

Cats with FIV can still live long, healthy lives with proper care and a safe indoor environment.

An all-volunteer rescue group, Chatons Orphelins Montreal, welcomed Gavroche with open arms. Leaving the streets behind, he would never have to struggle for survival again.

“Gavroche was incredibly lucky to survive outside without being able to see,” the rescue shared.

He was placed in a foster home where he could finally rest and begin his healing journey.

Although his right eye couldn’t be saved, he was freed from pain and infection. He was fully treated, neutered, and underwent dental surgery to remove several broken teeth.

With medication, comfort, and love, he slowly started eating again.

At first, he was understandably shy, but he never showed any signs of aggression.

“Gavroche is a gentle soul. It took time and patience to earn his trust, but his sweet personality gradually came back.”

Once he realized he was safe, he began to warm up to his foster family. He leaned into gentle head scratches, actively sought attention, and would flop onto his side, showing his fluffy belly while soaking in affection.

Even though he’s estimated to be around three years old, he’s still a kitten at heart.

He is incredibly lovable and seems to have left his difficult past behind him.

Now, he has become a true “love bug”, always craving attention and affection.

Gavroche has the temperament of a teddy bear—soft, calm, and incredibly sweet. Being blind doesn’t stop him from navigating his surroundings.

He maps out his environment using his other senses and moves around confidently.

He explores new places slowly and always manages to find cozy spots to rest.

He has also befriended other cats in the house, winning everyone over with his gentle and calm nature.

With each passing day, Gavroche continues to improve and enjoy affection even more.

He may still feel anxious in unfamiliar or busy environments, but he thrives on routine. Speaking to him before approaching helps him feel safe and reassured.

Today, thanks to his rescuer and dedicated volunteers, Gavroche is living like a king.

He no longer has to wander in the cold or struggle to survive in a world he couldn’t see.

Now, surrounded by loving humans and feline friends, he finally feels safe, cherished, and truly at home.
