Cat Has Been His Brother’s Greatest Protector Since They Were Found Together as Kittens

Brother's Greatest Protector

Two tiny kittens arrived at Best Friends Animal Society in Los Angeles after being rescued from a difficult life on the streets.

One of the kittens suffered from a severe eye infection, while his tabby brother stayed glued to his side through it all. At only four weeks old, they had already endured more hardship than most.

No one could have predicted that these brothers, later named Suke and Saku (originally Wally and Wellie), would develop such an extraordinary and unbreakable bond.

The pair were taken in by Frankie, a dedicated foster caregiver, who welcomed them into her home with warmth and care. She gently cleaned them up and created a cozy environment filled with blankets and toys.

Despite his injured eye, Suke—sleek and black like a little panther—remained full of life. With Saku always nearby, he played, explored, and ate eagerly. Soon, the space echoed with the comforting sound of their constant purring.

At first, Saku was timid, often hiding behind his brother. But once he realized he was safe, his loving personality blossomed. He became incredibly affectionate, constantly cuddling and embracing Suke. As Frankie shared, “They’ve always been very loving with each other.”

After Suke underwent eye surgery, Saku’s devotion grew even stronger. Frankie noticed them cuddling more than ever before.

Saku naturally stepped into the role of protector. He stayed close while Suke recovered, curling beside him as he slept with his cone and gently wrapping himself around him. Suke found comfort in his brother’s presence, soothed by his steady, calming purrs.

It was clear that Saku instinctively understood what his brother needed. He rarely left his side.

For an entire week after the surgery, Saku showered Suke with nonstop affection. Together, they produced some of the loudest purrs Frankie had ever heard. Their happiness was rooted in being together.

When adoption time approached, Frankie knew one thing for certain—they could never be separated.

“I couldn’t imagine them going to different homes,” she said.

Although they met several potential adopters without success, Frankie remained hopeful. Then came Glynnis, who instantly fell in love with both brothers and knew they belonged together.

She saw their uniqueness and embraced them completely for who they were.

Suke and Saku soon moved into their forever home, where they quickly settled in. They explored every corner and claimed their human’s bed as their favorite spot. Despite having many cozy places to rest, they always chose to share—whether it was a chair, hammock, or basket—even as they grew bigger.

Over time, they transformed into beautiful cats, their once-blue eyes turning a warm amber. Yet their bond remained unchanged.

“Saku is still very much the caretaker,” Glynnis shared.

Through everything, Saku has remained gentle, attentive, and always close to his brother. Their connection is deep, constant, and full of love.

Now, their mom wakes each morning to find them curled up beside her, purring softly.

“I can honestly say these two have changed my life,” she said.

Suke and Saku are now living the happy life they were always meant to share—together.
