While caring for community cats in her neighborhood, Donna, an animal rescuer, was informed by a neighbor about a cat that had been left behind. She found a cream-colored cat sitting in a side yard, wearing a collar. Donna offered him food in hopes of gaining his trust. “He has been over to eat every day since,” Donna shared. The cat was initially cautious, but Donna was hopeful he would soon come around.
Trust Builds with the Hungry Cat
The cat, hungry and thin, devoured the food Donna offered. His tail was matted, and his coat was sparse. As trust began to form, Donna extended her hand, and the cat responded with a strong head bump, then returned to his food. With time, she was able to pet him and even remove his old collar. “He’s got burrs stuck to his tail. His fur is so thin, with lots of bare spots,” Donna explained, realizing the cat needed help.
The Rescue and Eddie’s New Journey
One day, Donna brought a carrier and food to the cat. He greeted her with affectionate face rubs and rolled onto his side as if begging for help. Donna opened the carrier, placing a can of food inside, and the cat walked right in, enjoying his meal. She gently closed the door behind him. “His days of roaming the streets are behind him,” Donna said. The cat, now named Eddie, was finally safe and off the streets. Donna gave Eddie a much-needed bath, and he loved it. “All the crud came off, and he felt so much better,” she shared.

Seeking a Loving Home for Eddie
Eddie soon became a snuggly, affectionate cat who sought love at every opportunity. He snuggled with his foster dad, Randy, and greeted Donna each morning with head bumps. Donna knew he deserved a loving home, and hoped the right family would come for him. During a vet visit, Krista, a staff member at the clinic, fell for Eddie and asked to foster-to-adopt him. Krista had three dogs and a laid-back cat, and she knew how to do introductions slowly, making sure Eddie would fit in well.

Eddie Finds His Forever Family
Krista and her husband came to pick Eddie up. He walked up to them, seeking head scratches, and it was clear that Eddie was ready to join their family. Krista planned to bring Eddie along to work and take care of his dental and medical treatments. Before leaving, Eddie snuggled with Randy and Donna, thanking them for all they had done. Eddie quickly adapted to his new home, forming a bond with his new canine and feline siblings.
Eddie’s New Life with Krista
After receiving the dental treatment he needed, Eddie could now eat comfortably. He became a gentle, loyal companion who loved snuggling on his humans’ laps and staying by their side at night. Krista shared, “He’s filled a hole in my heart that I didn’t know needed filling.” Eddie’s journey from a stray to a beloved family member had come full circle, and he was finally where he belonged.
