Family Noticed a Cat Looking for Help, Not Long After They Took Her in, She Brought Kittens into the World

She Brought Kittens into the World

A kind family noticed a beautiful long-haired cat wandering around their neighborhood. She was heavily pregnant and clearly in need of help, safety, and a place to rest.

When no one came forward to claim her, the family knew they couldn’t leave her outside. While searching for a rescue that could provide long-term care, they welcomed her into their home and prepared a quiet, comfortable space for her.

Not long after being brought indoors, the cat went into labor.

The family reached out to Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions, and experienced foster volunteer Ellen Richter stepped in to help.

Ellen prepared a cozy and peaceful area for the mother cat, lovingly named Lovey Dovey, and her three newborn kittens. At first, Lovey Dovey was a little nervous, but she quickly relaxed once she realized her babies were safe. She curled protectively around them and purred constantly.

“She’s a wonderful mom and is taking excellent care of them,” Ellen shared.

Before long, Lovey Dovey was happily kneading her blanket and enjoying the comfort of her warm, quiet foster space.

Thanks to her attentive care, the kittens remained healthy, full-bellied, and spotless. Whenever Lovey Dovey stepped away for a moment, the kittens would snuggle tightly together in an adorable cuddle pile, keeping one another warm. As soon as she returned, they would quickly line up to nurse contentedly.

“Lovey Dovey is an excellent mama. She’s settling into her foster home, resting and relaxing while her babies latch, nurse, and sleep like little champions.”

Now that she fully trusts her foster mom, Lovey Dovey waits eagerly by the door each morning to greet Ellen and ask for affection. The moment Ellen sits down, she walks right over, cuddles up close, and happily requests head rubs and snuggles.

At just over two weeks old, the kittens have started opening their eyes and are slowly beginning to explore the world around them. They are still wobbly and unsteady, but they are already attempting tiny adventures.

“They can briefly hold their heads up, and they nurse every two hours before drifting back to sleep.”

Lovey Dovey remains incredibly attentive to her babies. At the slightest squeak or cry, she rushes back to check on them, carefully grooming them and making sure every need is met.

“She is definitely a helicopter mom who comes running at every little sound.”

If one kitten wanders even slightly away from the group, Lovey Dovey gently reaches out, pulls them back close, and showers them with kisses and soothing purrs.

Ellen even experimented with different setups to make the nest feel more secure and cave-like, trying to create the perfect environment for the protective mama.

“She’s very protective of her little ones. She became a little more nervous once they started crawling, so I added higher walls around the area to keep them safe. She seems to prefer keeping them tucked inside the carrier instead of out in the open.”

Each day, Lovey Dovey greets Ellen with a big happy stretch and then asks for all the attention she can get. While she remains fiercely devoted to her kittens, she also clearly enjoys being loved, pampered, and spoiled.

Thankfully, this will be her final litter. Once the kittens are weaned, Lovey Dovey will finally get to enjoy life for herself — playing, relaxing, and being cared for the way she deserves.

Thanks to one simple act of kindness and the compassion of many caring people, Lovey Dovey and her kittens are now thriving in foster care. They will never again have to worry about where their next meal will come from or whether they will be safe.

“We’re so happy to watch this beautiful little family grow.”
