One day, a stray cat that was very friendly came to this family’s house and decided to stay for a while. She was loving and clearly at ease with people, but no one nearby claimed her. The family was going to take her to the vet to make sure everything was okay, especially since they noticed her belly looked a little round.
There was a big surprise on the morning of the appointment. Four tiny newborn kittens were waiting for her outside when they went to get her. The stray had a baby quietly during the night. The new family could rest and be safe in a cozy little den that was built inside the home office.
The kittens got stronger and more playful over the next few weeks. Everyone gave them names: Bowie, Willy, Joey, and Jackie. Jackie was originally called One-Eyed Jack, but everyone quickly figured out she was a girl. Mama, their mother, took great care of them while the hoomans helped out.
Each of the kittens found a loving home when they were ready. Joey moved in with the narrator’s aunt and quickly made friends with everyone in the house, even the family dog. But one kitten stayed behind. Jackie was the family’s failed foster child, and she still lives there today as their beloved little princess.
