A tiny kitten, much smaller than others her age, showed the heart of a fighter. Months later, she transformed into a beautiful and confident cat.
Last summer, a mother cat and her seven kittens were rescued and brought to Craven Pamlico Animal Services, all in need of a fresh start. Michele, who manages the kitten foster program, quickly arranged a safe foster home for them.
The entire family was dealing with stomach issues. While the mother and most of the kittens began to recover, two of the smallest struggled to grow. At five weeks old, they were still the size of two-week-old kittens, clearly needing extra care.

Michele stepped in to provide specialized attention. Sadly, one of the tiny kittens didn’t survive despite all efforts. The other, a small tabby with white mittens, fought through and was named Bedhead because of her wild, messy fur. Despite her fragile size, she had a powerful will to live.
With dedicated care, Bedhead slowly began to improve. After days of effort, she started eating on her own. Medication helped resolve her stomach issues, and she gradually gained weight and strength. Just as things began to look better, she faced another challenge.
Bedhead developed ringworm, a skin condition that required weeks of treatment, including medicated baths and oral medication. During this time, she lost most of her fur, but her spirit remained strong. As she healed, her coat slowly grew back, even more beautiful than before.
With renewed energy, Bedhead became more playful and vocal. After six weeks of treatment, she reached important milestones and continued gaining strength. Although she remained smaller than other kittens her age, she was healthy and thriving.
As she grew, Bedhead blossomed into an energetic and friendly young cat. She got along well with other foster kittens and formed a close bond with one named Glacier. Despite being older, she was nearly the same size, but her confidence made her stand out.
By the time she was five months old, Bedhead had turned into a stunning cat with a soft coat and a fluffy tail that caught everyone’s attention. When she was ready for adoption, Michele carefully waited for the perfect family.
That moment came when Emily visited the shelter. Although she came to meet another cat, Bedhead instantly captured her heart. It was clear they were meant for each other.
Bedhead quickly adjusted to her new home, where she was surrounded by love. She bonded with her new family, including a cat sibling named Snow, and enjoyed constant affection from her human companions.
From a tiny, struggling kitten to a happy and cherished pet, Bedhead’s journey is a powerful reminder of resilience, care, and the impact of love. Though she remains small, her strength and spirit are truly remarkable.
