Olga, Masha, and Irina, three little kittens, began their lives outdoors, surviving with their instincts and a bit of luck. They were eventually rescued and taken in by the SPCA of Tompkins County, where they started a new chapter of their lives.
At the time of their rescue, the kittens were just 7 to 8 weeks old. Naturally, they were frightened and wary of people, often hiding or avoiding contact. Molly, an SPCA fosterer, stepped up to socialize the shy kittens. She set up a cozy playpen for them, but they had other plans. Immediately, they jumped out and sought new hiding spots around the room.
Determined to build a bond, Molly even slept in their room. One night, she woke up to feel a kitten snuggle up beside her. By morning, all three kittens were curled up in her bed, showing their trust and affection.
As days passed, their personalities started to emerge. Irina, a dilute tortie, was the first to warm up, eagerly accepting petting. Olga, a dilute tortico with unique white markings, was the most adventurous, quickly darting under the bed. Masha, the most reserved, slowly observed her sisters and eventually began to feel comfortable.
Molly gave each kitten individual attention to help them relax and feel safe. Within a week, the once fearful trio began actively seeking affection, a huge change from when they first arrived.
As winter approached and the first snowflakes fell, Molly was filled with relief, knowing the kittens were safe, warm, and loved inside. Soon after, a family from another state, who had been following the kittens’ journey on Instagram, eagerly reached out to adopt them. This family had recently lost their beloved senior rescue cat and were looking to adopt again.
The family made sure to prepare a special cat-friendly room with beds, cat trees, and toys for the kittens. They drove seven hours each way to bring the sisters home. “One of the adopters works from home, so the kittens will always have a warm lap to rest in,” says Molly. “It couldn’t be a better outcome for these three sweet girls.”
As the kittens head into their first Thanksgiving with their new family, Molly is filled with gratitude, knowing they’ve found the love and care they deserve.
