Kitten Thought to Be Younger Turns Out Older—But Thrives Into a Happy, Loving Cat Once Rescued

It turned out that a street kitten was considerably older than anticipated. After being held, she flourished and became the happiest cat.

A small kitten that was discovered outside, barely alive, was taken to a municipal shelter.

Knowing the kitten was in dire need of assistance, Nikki, a skilled animal rescuer and foster parent, hurried to the shelter. “Nikki told Love Meow, “She was starving on the streets, suffering from malnutrition and a terrible upper respiratory infection.”

At the sound of Nikki’s voice, the kitten named Rosie used what little strength she had to slowly raise her head. According to the paperwork, she was “depressed” in her kennel.

Due to her fragility, Rosie required constant syringe feeding. She required assistance keeping her face and nose clean as she battled the respiratory infection. She was extremely underweight, weighing only 1.6 pounds.

Nikki was shocked to see Rosie’s double fangs while feeding her. Rosie should have been at least twice her size, but she was much older than she had anticipated—nearly five months old.

Nikki began feeding Rosie tiny meals every few hours in an effort to give her a fighting chance without overtaxing her delicate body. She gave her constant affection, kept her warm, and gave her fluids.

“I knew she was going to be okay when I saw her eating and growing.”

Her appetite returned along with her energy. Rosie started eating by herself and tippy-tapping joyfully during mealtimes. In order for her to continue receiving care, Nikki took her to work at Hearts Alive Village. Rosie’s happy purrs soon filled the room.

In her foster home, Rosie loved her playpen, but nothing was better than being cuddled. Her purr motor roared to life as soon as she was in Nikki’s arms. “Once she was held and felt the warmth and love I gave her, she really thrived.”

Rosie stayed composed and trusting during a veterinary visit to have an abscess removed, as though she knew she was receiving assistance. She actually dozed off while using her paws to make biscuits. She received a treat afterward and is an absolute love bug.

Her playful spirit fully returned after she was healed. She enthusiastically batted at toys and rolled around on her cat tree.

Rosie’s size almost doubled and her energy tripled in two weeks. She immediately rubbed against Bradley, the resident dog, and leaned in to give her a hug.

She also went to Hearts Alive Village’s Cat Cafe, where she got to know Harrison, a resident cat. Rosie soon warmed up to him after a few initial hisses, appreciating his love and company.

Everywhere Rosie went, she was surrounded by love. She loved every minute of the pianist’s serenade at the cafe. As the music filled the room, she curled into a perfect loaf and fell asleep. “She truly loves people and has the sweetest personality.”

The days of living on the streets had long since passed. Rosie had flourished, not just survived.

The ideal family quickly found Rosie when she was prepared for the next phase of her life. Purring loudly, she melted into her new mother’s arms. She gave Nikki one final hug before leaving for her forever home, as if to express gratitude.

“I’m overjoyed for this adorable girl. She is deserving of all the affection and attention she is receiving.
