When a shelter cat named Athena and her newborn kittens needed urgent care, Heidi Shoemaker stepped in to foster them. Athena was severely underweight and dehydrated but remained devoted to her babies.
With proper food, fluids, and care, Athena slowly regained strength. The kittens received extra support, including feeding and treatment for stomach issues. Sadly, one kitten didn’t survive, but the remaining four grew stronger each day.
As Athena recovered, she became more relaxed and trusting. The kittens opened their eyes, started walking, and became playful and curious. Heidi created a larger space filled with toys, where they explored and thrived.
With time, Athena regained her health completely, gaining weight and energy. As her kittens grew independent, she finally began to enjoy life again, playing and resting peacefully.
Once the kittens were ready for the next stage, Athena was also prepared to find a loving forever home.
