They Take in Cat Living in the Snow, Transform His Life Completely, Once Indoors, He Reveals Who He Truly Is

They Take in Cat Living

An outdoor cat who once struggled to survive in freezing conditions has experienced a remarkable transformation after being brought indoors. Now safe and cared for, his true personality is finally shining through.

December – A Life Changed

Little Wanderers NYC, a volunteer-based rescue group, was contacted by a woman who helps care for a small colony of stray cats alongside another community member. As winter set in and snow covered the ground, the cats faced harsh conditions with only simple cardboard boxes for shelter—offering little warmth or protection.

Among them was a timid black-and-white cat named December. Though initially cautious, it was clear he had a gentle nature beneath his wary exterior.

“He’s the kind of cat who observes first and takes his time, but you can tell he wants affection,” shared Sydney, a coordinator with the rescue.

Over time, the caretaker became familiar with December’s habits and personality. As she continued to look after him, she noticed his health was deteriorating. Wanting to help but lacking the means, she reached out to Little Wanderers NYC for support.

The rescue team quickly stepped in, using humane traps to bring the cats to safety. When December was finally rescued, he was in poor condition and suffering from a serious upper respiratory infection.

He was immediately taken to a veterinary clinic, where he received urgent treatment. For nearly two weeks, he mostly rested, allowing his body to recover. Once he regained some strength, he was moved into a foster home.

Oana, a volunteer, opened her home to December without hesitation. She created a calm and quiet environment to help him adjust gradually. By observing his behavior closely, she allowed him to set the pace for interaction.

“I noticed he would get nervous if he didn’t see my hand coming,” Oana explained. “So I made sure to move slowly and let him see me first.”

With patience and gentle care, December began to trust. He started accepting affection and soon began leaning in for more attention.

He was also introduced to Oana’s resident cat, Louis, who showed immediate interest in the newcomer. Sensing December’s need for space, Louis stayed close without overwhelming him.

Within just a few days, December began following Louis around and even purred whenever he was near. Their bond helped boost his confidence, encouraging him to explore and play.

In just one week, December’s transformation was evident. He became affectionate, seeking out his foster mom for cuddles and happily resting beside or on her. When petted, he purrs contentedly and kneads in comfort.

Though he still enjoys having quiet spaces to retreat to, December continues to grow more comfortable each day. He thrives in a peaceful environment with other friendly cats and patient humans.

Now, he explores his surroundings with curiosity, plays with toys—especially ones that make noise—and enjoys lounging in cozy spots like windowsills and elevated beds.

Once struggling in the cold, December is now discovering the joys of a warm, loving home.

Sydney expressed gratitude to those who care for community cats daily and for trusting the rescue to help when needed.

“This is why we do what we do—to support those helping these animals and to give cats like December the chance for a better life.”
