After taking in two needy kittens, they saw the feline brothers grow into the cutest couple.
Without their mother, two kittens were discovered outside, clinging to one another for solace. Their future was uncertain when they were brought to a city animal shelter.
The brothers were initially treated for stomach problems, but it soon became apparent that they required more care than the shelter could offer. They were small, underweight, and particularly susceptible in the confines of the kennel.
The rescue arrived right away. The kittens were safely transported to Montreal and placed in foster care with the volunteer’s assistance. Beneath their fluffy coats, the brothers, Sam (tabby) and Tom (black-and-white), were nothing more than skin and bones. “It was clear they had been without their mother for quite some time and were seeking human contact and comfort,” the rescue reported.
The kittens recovered from an upper respiratory infection with medication and committed care. Sam had to fight harder because he was the weaker of the two. Despite having serious stomach problems and difficulty gaining weight, he persisted.
“To ensure they were getting enough food, their foster mother helped them eat and weighed them every day.”
The kittens were given unending love and care, which helped them regain their strength and eventually turn a corner when they started gaining weight. Sam’s enthusiasm and curiosity grew as his health improved.
After recovering completely, the kittens watched and imitated the other cats in the house to learn how to eat from a dish.
Soon the sound of tiny paws racing from room to room filled their foster home. They enthusiastically explored every nook and cranny, climbed cat trees, and chased wand toys.
They are a dynamic duo and have a very strong bond. Since the day they arrived, Sam and Tom have been inseparable. They are gregarious and adore other cats. When someone spends time playing with them, they flourish and love attention.
They seem to be joined at the hip because they are always together. Sam is the more composed and “wiser” of the two, while Tom is the mischievous one who always seems to be planning something. Their personalities are a perfect match.
Tom will chase anything that moves, including shadows, leaves, dust particles, and most frequently, his brother Sam.
Whether he is playing alone, with his brother, or with his humans, he never seems to get tired of it. He is never far from Sam and begins purring as soon as he is touched.
Sam, on the other hand, takes on the role of big brother, putting up with Tom’s antics and letting him fall all over him. “On or beside their humans on the couch, in bed, or nestled in their arms, they love to cuddle, purr, and fall asleep.”
The house is filled with laughter and joy as the once fragile kittens have grown into playful little troublemakers. They weave between the feet of their people, jump on and off furniture, and run at full speed. “They’ll climb onto their humans in bed and chase shadows if they decide that nighttime is playtime.”
Together, they made it through the outdoors. They are now genuinely thriving under the tender care of their foster family.
One always follows the other wherever they go. Finding a loving home together is the next chapter for the bonded brothers, who are living the best life possible.
