When rescuers learned about a “grandma” cat at a shelter, they didn’t hesitate to step in and give her the life she deserved.
About two months ago, a fragile senior tabby was found wandering as a stray and taken to the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission. She was in extremely poor condition—severely dehydrated, covered in heavily matted fur, and weighing just 3.2 pounds. Despite being too weak to even lift her head properly, she showed an incredible will to survive.
To everyone’s surprise, she slowly began to recover. Within just five days, she gained half a pound and eagerly ate every meal given to her. Her personality also started to shine through as she began seeking affection from the shelter staff.

Estimated to be between 15 and 17 years old, the cat proved that age was just a number and that she still had plenty of love and life left in her.
When Thrifted Kittens Animal Rescue was contacted to take her in, they immediately agreed. They named her Betty, inspired by Betty White, and committed to giving her the comfort and care she had long been missing.
Betty received a full medical evaluation along with a much-needed grooming session. Her fur had formed painful mats close to her skin, which took over an hour to carefully remove. Although she wasn’t thrilled about the makeover, she clearly felt relief afterward and even began grooming herself again.
As the days passed, Betty continued to amaze everyone with her strength and affectionate nature. She gained weight steadily and loved nothing more than constant cuddles. Within four weeks, she reached five pounds—a significant improvement from when she first arrived.
Despite dental issues, Betty never lost her enthusiasm for food. Her caregivers created a special “porridge” made from blended kitten food and formula, which quickly became her favorite.
Once she was strong enough, Betty underwent dental treatment successfully. Even after everything she had endured, she remained energetic—jumping onto counters, purring nonstop, and seeking out affection.
With her health improving and her appetite stronger than ever, Betty finally found her happy ending. Nearly two months after being rescued, she moved into a foster-to-adopt home where she can enjoy her golden years surrounded by love.
